It appears in the mountains and primeval forests at the junction of Yunnan and Tibet provinces, and is a unique species in China, with an endangered level comparable to the national treasure giant panda. It is the snow mountain elf - the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey. The Yunnan snub-nosed monkey is a unique and rare endangered species in China, with a total number of only more than 3,000. It has been classified as Endangered (EN) by the IUCN Red List, meaning that it has a high probability of extinction in the near future. Hunting, deforestation, unregulated tourism activities, overgrazing, and disorderly collection, etc., human activities are constantly threatening the survival of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey. In the mid-1980s, the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey was once considered extinct. With the support of the government and public welfare forces, the number of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys has begun to slowly increase. However, once the protection work stagnates, they may become extinct rapidly. The world will be hard to find their smiles again. Protecting the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey is urgent! In the past 15 years, we have been working hard to protect this endangered species through a series of activities, including investigation and monitoring of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey's habitat, helping to establish community patrol teams, supporting community development to reduce the interference of local villagers on the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey's habitat, and public education and publicity. Happily, our protection methods are effective! Changes have taken place! For example, the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey population in Laojun Mountain has increased from about 150 15 years ago to about 300 now! The road to protection is long and arduous. The Laojun Mountain community patrol team, composed of local villagers, patrols the primeval forest at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters for nearly 4,000 hours every year. In the past 15 years, the roads they have walked can circle the earth twice! During their patrols, they have removed thousands of traps and dealt with more than 3,000 interference incidents.
