Tencent Charity Foundation received donations of 730 million yuan in 2018

To gather together for public welfare and charity, to help in the fight against poverty, and to cheer for Shenzhen's love! The "2018 Shenzhen Charity Donation List" was released, and the "2019 Shenzhen Charity Month Series Activities" commendation ceremony was held on September 5th at the Shenzhen Civic Center. 978 individuals, 579 companies, 452 social organizations, 10 vibrant charity communities, 15 innovative charity activities/projects, and 10 excellent charity activity organizations have continuously contributed to enhancing Shenzhen's reputation as a "seven-star charity city" and have made outstanding contributions to the development of China's charitable cause and the building of a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way.

Charitable individuals leave only warmth, not their names

The "2018 Shenzhen Charity Donation Individual List" includes 978 individuals, with a total donation of approximately 360 million yuan. Among them, 704 individuals donated under their real names, with a total donation of 230 million yuan; 274 individuals chose to remain anonymous or did not disclose their names, donating a total of 130 million yuan; more than 570 individuals donated 30,000 yuan or less, accounting for about 58%. This shows the power of public welfare and charity accumulating from small contributions.

Liao Qingqing was the individual who donated the most under her real name. On the 50th anniversary of her graduation, she donated stocks worth 42.1 million yuan to her alma mater, South China University of Technology, to establish the Liao Qingqing Alumni Fund to support the development of education. To commemorate and thank Liao Qingqing's generous donation, South China University of Technology officially named Building No. 37 on its Wushan campus "Qingqing Wenli Building." She also donated 300,000 yuan to the Shenzhen Ye Chenghai Charity Foundation. Shenzhen Xinlitai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., jointly held by Ye Chenghai and Liao Qingqing, donated 27.32 million yuan in 2018, actively advocating and practicing the social public welfare cause of "caring for health and protecting life." In various health-related public welfare activities, Xinlitai has combined the company's academic and pharmaceutical resources with medical institutions and public welfare organizations to carry out charitable medical consultations, drug donations, and health education activities. Over the past 20 years, more than 350 million yuan has been donated to various social public welfare undertakings, including 22 million yuan worth of medicines sponsored for medical consultations.

In July of this year, China's first wildlife protection network, the Yunnan Golden Monkey Whole Territory Protection Network, was established in Shangri-La, Yunnan. Jiankangyuan Group, as one of the supporting institutions, established the "Yunnan Golden Monkey 3000+" special fund for the endangered "snow mountain elves," promoting the implementation of the "National Treasure Yunnan Golden Monkey Protection Action Plan (2015-2020)". In addition, participating in the Aiyou Charity Foundation's medical assistance for orphaned and impoverished children, the care of orphaned patients, assistance and protection for children in difficult circumstances, targeted poverty alleviation in the three regions and three prefectures, and post-disaster reconstruction in Shouguang, Shandong, Jiankangyuan Chairman Zhu Baoguo donated a total of more than 19.43 million yuan in funds and materials for public welfare and charity in 2018.

In July of this year, with the coordination of the China Charity Expo, the Shenzhen Hongli Charity Foundation went to Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province, to investigate rural health institutions and decided to donate a batch of urgently needed medical equipment as soon as possible to improve the hardware facilities of rural primary-level medical institutions. Zeng Yunshu and Peng Junyun of the foundation are both loving individuals who have won the "Pengcheng Charity Donation Individual Gold Award," actively practicing social responsibility in medical health, religious culture, humanistic care, and regional construction. In 2018, Zeng Yunshu donated 5 million yuan worth of advanced medical equipment such as fully automatic biochemical analyzers and color ultrasound machines to 8 townships in Xingning and 2 million yuan in targeted poverty alleviation funds to 4 townships; Peng Junyun donated 15 million yuan through the Hongli Charity Foundation to build the Xingning People's Hospital.

For many years, at the main venue of Guangdong's Poverty Alleviation Day, Li Xianyi, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the board of directors of Xinyi Group, has always been present to support and donate large sums of money. In nearly 40 years of investment in mainland China, he has cumulatively donated hundreds of millions of yuan to charitable causes, cultural transportation, education and health, environmental protection and disaster relief, and acts of bravery. He particularly values the development of education. In 2015, he donated 138 million yuan to build the "Longgang District Xianyi Foreign Language School" and 38 million yuan to establish the "Li Xianyi Education Foundation." In addition to earlier donations, he has initiated the establishment of 7 education funds, rewarding tens of thousands of teachers and students. Li Xianyi has been awarded the "China Charity Award," "Pengcheng Charity Award," and "National Model of Enthusiastically Participating in Acts of Bravery."

Charitable enterprises actively fulfill their responsibilities and give back to society

"Only wealth with love is meaningful wealth, and only enterprises that actively assume social responsibilities are the most competitive and have the most vitality." As Xu Jiayin, chairman of the board of directors of Evergrande Group, said, Shenzhen enterprises actively fulfill their social responsibilities and participate in poverty alleviation. The "2018 Shenzhen Charity Donation Enterprise List" includes 579 companies, with a total donation of 5.62 billion yuan in 2018. Among them, Evergrande Group donated 3.619 billion yuan, accounting for about 64% of the total donations. Tencent Group donated 730 million yuan, Vanke Co., Ltd. donated approximately 310 million yuan, and China Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China donated 100 million yuan.

Evergrande: Donated 11 billion yuan and sent 2,108 people to carry out targeted poverty alleviation in Bijie, Guizhou

On the 2019 China Forbes Charity List, Xu Jiayin, leading Evergrande Group, topped the list with a total donation of 4.07 billion yuan, of which approximately 3.62 billion yuan was donated through Shenzhen. In the 23 years since its founding, Evergrande has cumulatively donated over 14.6 billion yuan to public welfare undertakings such as people's livelihood, poverty alleviation, education, and environmental protection.

With the encouragement and support of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Evergrande began to pair up with Bijie City, Guizhou Province in December 2015, investing 11 billion yuan free of charge and sending a poverty alleviation team of 2,108 people to the Wumeng Mountain area. They firmly grasped the "bull's-eye" of targeted poverty alleviation—industry poverty alleviation, relocation poverty alleviation, and employment poverty alleviation—to help all 1.03 million impoverished people in the city achieve stable poverty alleviation by 2020.

In terms of industrial poverty alleviation, Evergrande helped Bijie build the largest vegetable and fruit base and the largest beef cattle breeding base in Southwest China, helping 200,000 households and 700,000 impoverished people develop vegetables, beef cattle, and other characteristic industries such as Chinese herbal medicine and fruit trees: constructing 60,000 vegetable greenhouses, introducing and breeding 100,000 Angus and Simmental high-quality breeding cows, improving 500,000 local cattle, building a 500,000-mu base for Chinese herbal medicine and fruit trees, and introducing 79 upstream and downstream leading enterprises to form a support model of "leading enterprises + cooperatives + impoverished households + bases," achieving integrated "supply, production, and sales" operations. In terms of relocation poverty alleviation, for impoverished people whose basic production and living conditions have been lost, Evergrande has built 12 immigrant relocation communities and 50 new rural areas in 10 counties and districts in Bijie, relying on county towns and industrial parks, solving the relocation of 221,800 impoverished households in Bijie and simultaneously building supporting facilities such as education and commerce, and supporting industries suitable for employment by impoverished households. In terms of employment poverty alleviation, Evergrande organized impoverished people for vocational skills training, solving employment for 80,000 people, with an average annual income of 42,000 yuan, achieving "one person employed, the whole family out of poverty."

To date, Evergrande has donated 7 billion yuan, assisting the party committees and governments at all levels in Bijie in helping 585,900 people initially escape poverty, with Dafang County and Qianxi County already having been lifted out of poverty.

Tencent: Gathering the Power of 'Fingertip Philanthropy'

In the field of philanthropy, Tencent fully leverages the "benevolent" attributes of technology, relying on the advantages of "Internet+". Through facial recognition technology, lost children are reunited with their families; through remote education technology, children in remote areas receive better educational resources; and with 3D printing technology, disabled people obtain prosthetics at a lower cost. Since 2014, Tencent has launched the "99 Giving Day" activity, transforming "fingertip philanthropy" into the vast power of "everyone's philanthropy". The 2018 "99 Giving Day" activity received donations from 28 million people and over 2,000 companies. Combined with a matching donation of 400 million yuan from the Tencent Charity Foundation, the total amount of donations exceeded 1.414 billion yuan. In 2019, Tencent Charity will once again provide nearly 400 million yuan in matching donations and incentives for "99 Giving Day". The warm-up activity "Collect Little Red Flowers" attracted enthusiastic participation from foundations and charitable organizations nationwide. This year, Tencent will also join forces with the China Charity Expo to establish a "Poverty Alleviation Project Special Section", giving priority to 28 excellent poverty alleviation projects in the three prefectures and three states, old revolutionary base areas, and other deeply impoverished regions for three days of online fundraising and matching donations during "99 Giving Day."

Vanke: Creating a New Era Sample of Rural Revitalization in Heyuan and Shanwei

"Thank you, General Secretary Xi, thank you to the Party Committee and the government, for allowing us to move into such bright new houses, complete with furniture. So many people care about us, we will definitely work harder and live a better life." In May 2019, Xia Sanfu, a relocated household from Sede Village, Loben Zhuo Township, Nujiang, Yunnan, said excitedly at the relocation ceremony for the relocation resettlement site. The furniture for the 607 relocated households who moved into their new homes was donated by Vanke Co., Ltd. In 2018, participating in the "China Guangcai Cause Nujiang Trip," Vanke signed an agreement to donate 80 million yuan to Nujiang, planning to equip impoverished families relocated in Nujiang Prefecture with living facilities in three batches over two years.

In 2018, Vanke continued to actively respond to the call of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, vigorously carrying out precision poverty alleviation and rural revitalization work, and continuously innovating poverty alleviation models. In terms of precision poverty alleviation, Vanke has cumulatively assisted over 230,000 impoverished people, benefiting impoverished groups in places such as Taxian County, Xinjiang, Baise, Guangxi, and Nujiang, Yunnan. In terms of rural revitalization, Vanke leverages its more than 30 years of experience in regional development and hardware improvement and upgrading to actively explore and create new-era samples of rural revitalization in Guangdong's Heyuan and Shanwei. Social Organizations Become an Important Force in Poverty Alleviation

A total of 452 social organizations were listed on the "2018 Shenzhen Social Organization Charitable Donation Income List," with a total donation amount of 3.94 billion yuan. Among them, the Tencent Charity Foundation received approximately 730 million yuan in donations in 2018, the Shenzhen Charity Association received approximately 419 million yuan, and the Shenzhen Yifund Public Welfare Foundation received approximately 293.5 million yuan. The Shenzhen Chen Yidan Public Welfare Foundation received over 100 million yuan in donations.

1. Tencent Charity Foundation

Initiated by Tencent in September 2006 and registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs in June 2007, it is a national non-public fundraising foundation and China's first public welfare foundation initiated by an Internet company. The Tencent Foundation promotes the deep integration and development of the Internet and public welfare undertakings, cultivating an ecosystem where everyone can participate in public welfare through products such as the "Tencent Online Donation Platform," "Yixingjia," "99 Giving Day," and "Chuangyi Plan." The Tencent Foundation explores cutting-edge Internet+ public welfare models in areas such as rural development, education, poverty alleviation, disaster relief, and employee public welfare through projects such as "Tencent Stereoscopic Disaster Relief." In 11 years, Tencent and its employees have cumulatively donated approximately 1.9 billion yuan. Tencent Charity has mobilized approximately 200 million netizens to raise 4.6 billion yuan in donations, 90% of which is used for poverty alleviation, making it the world's largest Internet public charity fundraising platform. Tencent received the 10th "China Charity Award" for donation enterprises.

Guo Kaitian, Party Secretary of Tencent and Chairman of the Tencent Charity Foundation, is on the list. He led the team in proposing the "Internet+" concept, making the post-80s and post-90s generations the mainstream of Internet fundraising, and exploring new paths for public welfare development with "everyone's public welfare, convenient public welfare, and fingertip public welfare." As of July 2018, Tencent Charity has cumulatively raised nearly 3.7 billion yuan, received donations from 167 million people, and benefited over 26,000 public welfare projects, becoming the largest Internet fundraising information platform in China.

2. Shenzhen Yifund Public Welfare Foundation

Founded by Mr. Jet Li in April 2007 and established in Shenzhen in January 2011 as the first private public fundraising foundation, it is a 5A-level social organization in Shenzhen and has maintained a full score in information transparency for six consecutive years. With the vision of "doing what I can, everyone's public welfare," Yifund builds a professional and transparent public welfare platform, focusing on disaster relief, children's care and development, and public welfare support and innovation, striving to become a pioneer, innovator, and promoter of public welfare in China. As of December 2018, it has cumulatively received over 1.929 billion yuan in donations in cash and kind, with a total of over 2.867 billion donations, and has partnered with approximately 24,000 public welfare partners to benefit 13 million people. The "China Red Cross Society Jet Li Yifund Plan" and "Yifund Children's Safety Plan" won the "China Charity Award" for charitable projects.

3. Shenzhen Social Public Welfare Foundation

Shenzhen's first government-run foundation to complete social reform and a provincial 5A foundation, it was the first in China to propose the development strategy of "building a public welfare venture capital platform to support social innovation projects." It has cumulatively raised over 210 million yuan and funded over 1,000 public welfare innovation projects. The China Public Welfare and Charity Project Competition it hosts has had 6,423 participating projects over seven years, covering 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. A total of 350 projects have won awards, driving over 55 million yuan in social project funding, making it the highest-level, most widely participated, and most influential public welfare and charity project competition in China. It participated in the establishment of China's first perpetual collective charitable trust, the "China Ping An Education Charitable Trust Plan," and used the domestically pioneering "charitable trust + public welfare fund" model to undertake and operate the "Dapeng Peninsula Ecological Civilization Construction Public Welfare Fund." It also undertakes the China Charity Expo's public welfare and charity resource docking platform and hosts large-scale public welfare activities such as "Shenzhen-Kashgar 1+1 Universiade Shenzhen Trip" and "Mofang Shenzhen 100-kilometer Public Welfare Trip." It has won the "Pengcheng Charity Award."

4. Shenzhen Hongli Charity Foundation

Established and registered on May 31, 2013, with the approval of Shenzhen Civil Affairs Bureau. Adhering to the principle of "loving contribution," it has launched numerous charity projects that have caused a strong response both domestically and internationally, including the cultural poverty alleviation project "Love Starts from Shenzhen," the 56 ethnic groups series, the general culture series, and the free training series. It has won the third "Pengcheng Charity Award" exemplary project. Huang Nanmei, the 91-year-old director of the Hongli Calligraphy and Painting Gallery and director of the Charity Association and Hongli Cultural Poverty Alleviation Fund, once donated tens of millions of yuan to establish the "Nanmei Scholarship" and has received numerous honors such as National Public Welfare Model and Civilized Citizen.

5. Shenzhen Nanshan Shekou Community Foundation

In December 2014, Shekou community residents spontaneously donated to create the "Shekou Community Public Welfare Fund," which was registered and established as the Shenzhen Nanshan Shekou Community Foundation in 2015, becoming the first community foundation in Nanshan District. By the end of 2018, the foundation had funded 46 projects, cooperated on 23 projects, and established cooperative relationships with 166 organizations. The foundation initiated the filming of "Yuan Geng's Legend" to commemorate the Yuan Geng Special Fund and compiled the Shekou Memory series of books. The "Shekou Community Public Welfare Day" event has held the nation's first car-free day activity for three consecutive years. The "Shekou Integrity Culture Line" project covers 13 communities in the Zhaoshang Street.

6. Shenzhen Heng Hui Children's Public Welfare Foundation

Registered and established on May 17, 2017, with the Shenzhen Civil Affairs Bureau. Since its establishment, it has been committed to three major project matrices: children's medical care, children's welfare, and public welfare venture capital. By December 2018, the medical project matrix had cumulatively assisted over 76,000 orphaned and impoverished children; supported medical institutions in carrying out more than 10 clinical research projects, and established the first "China Congenital Heart Disease Surgical Database." The welfare project matrix has cumulatively helped more than 11,000 orphaned children with illnesses.

7. Shenzhen Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation

Initiated by the ALASHAAN SEE Ecological Association, enthusiastic public welfare entrepreneurs, and relevant Shenzhen departments, the Mangrove Foundation was established in July 2012. It is the first privately initiated local environmental public welfare foundation in China and a 4A-level social organization in Shenzhen. Wang Shi and Ma Weihua serve as co-chairmen, committed to the protection and education of coastal wetlands represented by mangroves. Coastal wetland conservation is the first case in China where a government entrusts a social organization (foundation) to manage an ecological park; it builds a coastal wetland conservation network integrating protected areas, wetland parks, environmental protection public welfare organizations, and experts and scholars, and carries out international cooperation on coastal wetland protection. The entrusted management of the Futian Mangrove Ecological Park won the fourth "Pengcheng Charity Award" exemplary project.

8. Shenzhen AiYue Public Welfare Foundation

On December 20, 2008, Ms. Li Wen, founder of the AiYue Public Welfare Foundation, donated the first rural primary school library to Zhu Ting Primary School in Zhuzhou County, Hunan Province, starting a nationwide donation journey for primary school libraries. After the foundation's establishment in 2010, the rural primary school library project became the foundation's first implemented project. Since its official launch in 2016, the Yueya Plan has helped more than 70,000 families start early reading. With the vision of "promoting high-quality children's reading to promote a better future," it is committed to promoting the development of children's reading and improving the quality of children's reading. In the future, the Yueya Plan will distribute at least 500,000 Yueya packages in Shenzhen, exploring a path suitable for China's early reading promotion.

9. SF Express Public Welfare Foundation

Since the establishment of the SF Express Charity Foundation in 2009 and the SF Express Public Welfare Foundation in 2012, SF Express Public Welfare's footprint has now spread across most of China, covering 19 provinces and regions including Tibet, Gansu, Sichuan, Guangdong, Yunnan, Qinghai, and Guizhou. It mainly focuses on supporting the educational development of remote and impoverished areas and providing medical assistance to children. At the same time, relying on SF Express's logistics advantages, it actively participates in disaster relief and actively tries and explores in the fields of poverty alleviation, ecological protection, and other public welfare areas. Among them, the SF Express Lotus Scholarship Project won the "China Charity Award." A total of 4,453 outstanding impoverished middle school students have been funded in 20 project counties in 12 provinces, with more than 1,000 students entering prestigious universities including Peking University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Fudan University. In 2018, SF Express Co., Ltd. donated 40.7413 million yuan to the SF Express Public Welfare Foundation, with the funds mainly used for medical assistance and the Lotus Scholarship project.

10. Shenzhen Songhe Growth Care Foundation

Shenzhen Songhe Growth Care Foundation was registered and established in 2010. Initiated by Shenzhen Deep Port Science and Technology Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., it adopts a "Love Alliance" membership model to gather corporate social responsibility resources based on shared values. Through the implementation of the "Flying over the Rainbow National Children's Choir" public welfare project, it promotes the protection and inheritance of China's multi-ethnic traditional culture.

"Flying over the Rainbow" is different from traditional charity projects' "material assistance." Instead, it is a creative public welfare project that starts with "intellectual input" and aims at "ethnic cultural output." Using original ethnic music to showcase the colorfulness of diverse ethnic cultures, it has established 35 choirs of 23 ethnic groups in minority areas, benefiting more than 5,000 children. They have not only sung from mountain villages to international stages but also driven local economic development. It won the 2019 China Public Welfare Charity Project Competition Gold Award.
