On May 22, the "Chronic Disease Public Welfare Supporting Rural Revitalization" initiative, jointly promoted by Health Yuan and Lizhu Group, arrived in Toktok County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, where a donation ceremony was held at the County Party and Government Conference Center. Zhang Xiaodong, Standing Committee Member of the County Committee and Deputy County Head; Nasen Ulitu, Deputy Director of the Government Office; and leaders from the County Health and Health Commission and the County Red Cross Society, as well as volunteers from Health Yuan and Lizhu Group, attended the event.
Toktok County is located in central Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on the Tumot Plain at the southern foot of Daqing Mountain and the northern bank of the boundary between the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River. In recent years, the county has vigorously implemented the "Rural Talents Supporting Rural Revitalization" initiative, calling on rural talents in the medical field to take root at the grassroots level, popularize health knowledge, and effectively address issues in disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment difficulties.
2024 is a year for deepening the consolidation of poverty alleviation achievements and effectively linking them with rural revitalization. Disease-related economic burdens are one of the most prominent factors and a key area needing improvement in rural revitalization. Establishing a long-term chronic disease prevention and control system is an important part of rural revitalization efforts.
With economic and social development, particularly population aging and changes in residents' lifestyles, the incidence of chronic diseases in China has generally shown an upward trend and is becoming younger. Data from the seventh national population census in China shows that in 2023, there were approximately 180 million chronic disease patients in China. Among them, low-income patients in remote areas face significant challenges in medical security, including accessibility and affordability of medicines.
Chronic disease prevention and control in Toktok County is a key focus of the county's health undertakings and rural revitalization efforts. The 1 million yuan worth of chronic disease treatment drugs donated by Health Yuan and Lizhu Group will effectively support the county's comprehensive chronic disease prevention and control efforts, reduce the economic burden on local patients, and prevent low-income families from falling into or returning to poverty due to illness.
This year marks the seventh year of the Health Yuan and Lizhu Group chronic disease public welfare project. Since the end of 2018, Health Yuan, leveraging its pharmaceutical company advantages, has made multiple donations of chronic disease medicines to remote areas across the country, effectively helping to improve the level of basic medical services.
Public information shows that by the end of 2023, Health Yuan had signed 26 agreements for inclusive chronic disease prevention and control public welfare projects, including 23 remote areas in need of assistance, covering 8 provinces and 4 autonomous regions nationwide, reaching nearly 20,000 low-income chronic disease patients. The project also won the "Excellent Practice Case of Rural Revitalization by Listed Companies" and "Rural Revitalization Contribution Enterprise" awards in 2023.
In addition to donating medicines to support the construction of grassroots health work, Health Yuan also actively leverages its research platform and capabilities to engage in research in five rare diseases: idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, malignant hyperthermia, acromegaly, thymic tumors, and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, aiming to solve the problem of the unavailability of medicines for rare diseases.
The construction of social health work consists of many units, and enterprises, especially pharmaceutical companies, are an indispensable part. Health Yuan will continue to use its strengths to help low-income people in need to access affordable medicines, reduce their medical burden, protect the health of the grassroots population with practical actions, and consolidate the path of rural revitalization with corporate strength.
