On December 13, Jiankangyuan Pharmaceutical Group invited Dr. Liang Guibo, a renowned scientist in new drug research and development and the author of the popular science series "The Story of New Drugs," to hold a new book sharing session at the group's headquarters in Shenzhen for his new book—"The Story of New Drugs 3." This sharing session was held both online and offline, with over 130 employees participating. Guests in attendance included Mr. Yu Xiong, President of Jiankangyuan, and Dr. Jin Fang, Chief Scientist of Jiankangyuan.

"The Story of New Drugs 3" is the third installment in Dr. Liang Guibo's popular science series on Western medicine. Continuing the easy-to-understand style of the previous two books, it uses simple language and vivid descriptions to tell captivating stories from the forefront of life sciences, showcasing the progress and achievements of the human pharmaceutical industry. From psoriasis and diabetes to acromegaly and pulmonary fibrosis, from pathological research and drug development to clinical trials and market approval, Liang Guibo focuses on the years of exploration by laboratories, scientists, and pharmaceutical teams, leading readers to witness the twists and turns in humanity's fight against disease.

At the event, author Liang Guibo shared the editing and writing process and characteristics of the book. He guided readers to understand the ancient wisdom of our ancestors and the wonderful connection with modern medicine, focusing on widely-concerned health issues and telling exciting stories from the history of humanity's struggle against disease. He mentioned that the ancient wisdom and simple experiences passed down by our ancestors have nurtured and inspired modern medicine. For example, from hunting arrow poison in the American jungle, to the real-world 'Ten Fragrant Soft Tendon Powder,' and to the anesthetics widely used in surgery, modern science has repeatedly rediscovered the ancient wisdom of our ancestors, benefiting humanity time and again. At the same time, Liang Guibo also highlighted the years of exploration by laboratories, scientists, and pharmaceutical teams in their challenging fight against disease.

Liang Guibo graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Fudan University, majoring in organic chemistry. In the late 1980s, he went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for further studies and obtained his doctorate. He conducted postdoctoral research at Cornell University. After graduation, Liang Guibo worked at Merck Laboratories for many years, making significant contributions to the development of sitagliptin. He has long been committed to exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and American pharmaceutical industries and actively promotes the development of China's pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.

Whether it's a major or minor illness, we interact with drugs throughout our lives; the history of humanity is also the history of drugs. Liang Guibo briefly reviewed the terrible viruses humanity has experienced in recent years and the contribution of pharmacology to global health. Ebola virus, SARS virus, and the current novel coronavirus, under the background of global population movement, have inevitably led to exponential spread and global epidemics. However, at any time, it is the collective wisdom of all mankind that is undergoing an unprecedented severe test. He stated that although COVID-19 vaccines cannot completely prevent viral infection, they can effectively prevent serious illness and death. The role of vaccination should not be underestimated, so he strongly recommends vaccination, such as the recombinant COVID-19 virus fusion protein (CHO cell) vaccine "Likang V-01" from Lizhu Bio, a subsidiary of Jiankangyuan.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country deployed five technological routes, including inactivated vaccines, adenovirus vector vaccines, recombinant protein vaccines, attenuated influenza virus vector vaccines, and nucleic acid vaccines, to ensure the success rate of COVID-19 vaccine research and development. "Likang V-01" is a research achievement under the new technological route of recombinant protein vaccines.

In the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Jiankangyuan, based on patient interests, adheres to innovation as its driving force, continuously focuses on China's major health industry, pays attention to investment in innovative technologies and the construction of R&D platforms, actively accelerates the research and development and global layout of innovative drugs and high-barrier complex preparations, and is committed to providing patients with more high-quality drug choices. Recently, Jiankangyuan's new drug, Tobramycin Inhalation Solution Jianketo, "specially developed for Chinese patients," has been launched and put into clinical use. It is the first domestically produced nebulized inhaled antibiotic for the treatment of bronchiectasis in adults with Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection of the lungs, controlling infection and improving symptoms. The successful launch of Jianketo will change the current situation in China where there are no available drugs in the field of nebulized inhalation treatment for bronchiectasis, providing more support for bronchiectasis patients and improving their quality of life.

Finally, in the interactive session, readers raised various questions about the content of the new book sharing. The atmosphere on site was highly professional and academic. Liang Guibo answered each question one by one, engaging in thought-provoking discussions and active interactions with the readers. This new book sharing session brought much encouragement and inspiration to Jiankangyuan and its employees, and concluded successfully after the book signing and photo session. In the future, Jiankangyuan will continue to uphold human life and health, adhere to its mission and vision of "For Health, For Tomorrow" and "Making Good Medicines with Care," and actively and continuously contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
