The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lizhu have made a new breakthrough in vaccine research.

On July 18, research data on the recombinant novel coronavirus fusion protein vaccine V-01 and the bivalent vaccine V-01D-351 sequential booster vaccination study, jointly developed by Lizhu Biologics, a subsidiary of Lizhu Group, and the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was published in the journal Clinical Medicine Journal.
The results showed that: V-01 can effectively curb the spread of current novel coronavirus variant strains. The V-01D-351 sequential booster regimen maintains effective immunogenicity against the wild-type strain and produces strong cross-neutralizing ability against Delta and Omicron BA.1. In addition, the immunogenicity of the V-01D-351 bivalent vaccine booster lasts for a considerable time, and the neutralizing antibody response remains at a high level up to 90 days after vaccination. Lizhu Group's V-01 and V-01D-351 provide a better choice for sequential boosting.
In terms of immunogenicity, the V-01 and V-01D-351 bivalent vaccine sequential vaccination regimen can induce a more potent humoral immune response compared to homologous boosting. The neutralizing antibody titers of V-01D-351 booster against wild-type, Delta, and Omicron BA.1 strains reached their peak on day 14, with GMTs being 22.7, 18.3, and 14.3 times that of the ICV booster, respectively. The GMTs of V-01 booster against the above three strains were 3.7, 3.0, and 3.8 times that of the ICV booster, respectively. In terms of safety, the V-01 and V-01D-351 bivalent vaccines as sequential boosters showed good safety and tolerability, with no or mild adverse reactions. The V-01 sequential booster regimen also showed good immunogenicity and safety in elderly subjects.
In terms of accessibility, V-01 undertakes the high-tech transformation achievements of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, breaking through technical bottlenecks, with reliable process quality, basically domestically produced raw materials, stable supply chain, and easily scalable production capacity. The company has a commercial vaccine workshop with an annual production capacity of 1.5 billion doses, stable product quality, and can be transported and stored in a 2-8℃ cold chain, which can provide sufficient vaccine supply for epidemic prevention and control. Currently, the V-01 recombinant novel coronavirus fusion protein vaccine has applied for sequential emergency use and has submitted a conditional marketing application to the National Medical Products Administration, both of which are currently under review.
Currently, the domestic epidemic situation shows a pattern of sporadic outbreaks and local cluster outbreaks in multiple places, with many outbreaks caused by Omicron mutant strains. Their high infectivity and rapid transmission rate have further increased the difficulty of epidemic prevention and control. Lizhu Group's V-01 and the bivalent vaccine V-01D-351's unique molecular design can induce strong humoral and cellular immunity against the novel coronavirus. Sequential boosting can significantly improve neutralizing antibody levels and has good neutralizing ability against Omicron mutant strains, which can more effectively prevent viral escape and is expected to overcome the main limitations or uncertainties of previous generation COVID-19 vaccines, becoming a new high-quality COVID-19 vaccine and contributing Lizhu's strength to epidemic prevention and control.
