Most of these adorable pandas that you see live carefree lives under human care.
However, in the unseen wild, there are many wild pandas facing the threat of extinction, and they are not so lucky...
The Crisis Facing Giant Pandas
Habitat loss, fragmentation, and rapid climate change are the real threats to pandas. Due to human activities and obstacles from mining, road construction, hydropower station construction, and other large-scale projects, the fragmentation of existing panda habitats is extremely serious. Currently, wild pandas are divided into 33 isolated populations. Only 6 populations have more than 100 pandas, while 22 populations have fewer than 30 individuals, posing a risk of extinction. In particular, the 18 populations with fewer than 10 individuals are at a high risk of extinction.
They are isolated from other local populations by natural or man-made barriers, making it difficult to cope with food shortages and gene exchange. At the same time, if a disease strikes, the excessive similarity within a local population makes it difficult for any individual to possess disease-resistant genes and survive—the result could be the complete annihilation of a local population. For these isolated populations, it is necessary to build corridors and assist in relocation to help them exchange genes with neighboring populations; otherwise, they are very likely to become extinct one after another.

“99 Giving Day” is an annual nationwide public welfare event jointly initiated by Tencent Charity, hundreds of public welfare organizations, well-known enterprises, celebrities, and top creative communication agencies. Since China's first Giving Day on September 9, 2015, it has gradually become a phenomenal annual public welfare event with the largest number of participants and the widest influence in the public welfare industry.
This year's 99 Giving Day, Health Yuan Group will join hands with the Yunnan Provincial Green Environment Development Foundation to launch the "Small Population, Big Reunion" public welfare project, working together to protect small giant panda populations!
It will establish a scientific demonstration of panda habitat restoration and corridor construction covering 10 square kilometers, promoting coordinated protection among the four protected areas where the small panda population in Jiuding Mountain, Sichuan Province, is located. It is expected to restore more than 40 square kilometers of key areas, achieving effective protection and management for a total of 35 pandas and their habitats covering more than 1400 square kilometers.
